Fitness in 100 words? Is it possible to summarize what fitness means in just a hundred words? Well, Crossfit’s founder Greg Glassman at least tried. Let’s see what his definition of fitness in hundred words is:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climbs, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstands, pirouettes, flips, splits and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.

Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

Regularly learn and play new sports.

Understanding The Hundred Words

Food

“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.”

Ms. Exercise: Eat only quality wholesome food. Don’t eat junk food, which is a highly processed food that is made up of empty calories foods loaded with full of saturated fat, and sugar, and devoid of nutrients that neither help the body to nurture, focus and perform vital functions all through the day.

“Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.”

Ms. Exercise: Eat to fuel your body, not your emotions. Emotional eating is turning to food for comfort, stress relief, or as a reward rather than to satisfy hunger. Forget the diet hype and eat what is described in the previous statement. Eat mindfully and listen to your body.

Training

“Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch.”

Ms. Exercise: Squats, presses, and deadlifts work lots of muscles at once, and since so much muscle mass is being used, these exercises have far more potential to make you strong. Compound exercises, such as the mentioned exercises, improve overall intermuscular coordination. In addition, since compound exercises elevate the heart rate, they are considered suitable for cardiovascular health improvement.

“Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climbs, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstands, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.”

Ms. Exercise: Learn and train the ability to select the right muscle at the right time with the proper intensity to achieve proper action. Build body awareness and capacity to become fitter.

Change Routine

Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

Ms. Exercise: The key to success is diversity. Include elements in your fitness that will help you overcome challenges in life. Diversity creates adaptation, and adaptation creates change.

Regularly learn and play new sports.

Ms. Exercise: Focus on other activities as well. It will help you to look at yourself and your current activities differently. At the same time, it will give your body new impulses.
